Univision Channel 41 reached out to Women Aware last week to get the facts on domestic violence. At issue was the question of what happens when an incarcerated perpetrator of domestic violence is released. Is the victim informed?
Women Aware’s Director of Client Services Maria Betanzos went on camera to share her expertise on the VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) program that provides notification to victims of crime when their offenders are released from custody.
“Victims of domestic violence have many rights under the law. They can report the crime that’s happening whether it’s harassment, stalking, or if the abuser is sending messages.”
